Tessuti Awards 2010
Linen and Lace, by Leah Da Gloria
About my Linen and Lace
- Pattern Used: My own design
- Fabrics Used: Linen in white, corded chantilly lace
- Time To Create: 3 weeks on and off
- Dress Influenced By: For this piece i wanted to create an elegant, simple dress suitable for a day event, something fresh and summery with a subtle vintage feel.
- Additional Information: The hero of this piece are the 3D hand cut lace flowers, done by meticulously cutting into the lace, pressing with a starch spray and re-applying by hand. Additionally, a perfect fit was imperative for such a simple design so the challenge for this was creating a soft molded look in the linen which is usually a crisp fabric, this was achieved by repeated washing of the fabric before construction. The dress is self lined with a traditional tailored vent at the centre back for movement. Boning was also applied to waist point as well as internal bust cups for shaping as a nod to the internal details and structure of vintage clothes.
